En 1984, Johnny Cash a invité Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings et Kris Kristofferson à jouer sur son émission spécial Johnny Cash Christmas enregistré en Suisse. De retour à l’hôtel, ils ont commencé à jammer et à passer du temps ensemble, et c’est ainsi que le groupe The Highwaymen est né. The Highwaymen Show rend hommage aux grands hors-la-loi américains de la musique country - Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings et Kris Kristofferson. Le spectacle passe par tous les plus grands succès incluant « Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys », « Always on My Mind », « Me and Bobby McGee » et « Folsom Prison Blues ».
