Signature Summer Exhibition: A Day in the Life of Elizabeth R. Scovil

Queens County Heritage invites the public to the opening of its Signature Summer Exhibition, "A Day in the Life of Elizabeth R. Scovil," on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Court House Museum, 16 Court House Road, Village of Gagetown (E5M 1A4).

This imaginative exhibition offers a glimpse into the life of Elizabeth R. Scovil (1849–1934), a pioneering nurse, educator, and devoted aunt, as she might have experienced it during the years she lived at her family farm, Meadowlands, on Scovil Point from 1903 to 1922. While based on historical records, the exhibition uses artistic license to recreate a “day in her life,” drawing on artifacts from the Queens County Heritage Collection as well as items on loan from Kings Landing.

The exhibition is informed by the research of author Virginia Bliss Bjerkelund, whose works Meadowlands: A Chronicle of the Scovil Family (2020) and A Nurse for All Seasons: Elizabeth Robinson Scoville 1849–1934: New Brunswick’s Pioneer of Professional Nursing (2023) were used extensively in the development of the display. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Bjerkelund at the opening, where her books will also be available.

All are welcome to attend this engaging and thoughtful tribute to one of New Brunswick’s early healthcare trailblazers.
