Fredericton, NB – A brand-new, free family festival is coming to downtown Fredericton this summer. Kidfest, co-presented by the City of Fredericton and the MRTI Agency, will take place August 29–30, and will transform Officers’ Square into a hands-on hub of entertainment, creativity, and fun for children and families.
Billed as the first festival of its kind east of Montreal, Kidfest is designed specifically with families in mind — offering high-quality programming, interactive experiences, and live entertainment in a safe, welcoming environment.
This end of summer celebration will feature live performances, interactive activities, creative workshops, games, and engaging experiences tailored to children of all ages. From music and stage shows to hands-on art, movement, and family activities, Kidfest aims to create lasting memories while showcasing downtown Fredericton as a premier destination for community events.
Officers’ Square will serve as the primary outdoor festival site, with collaborators - such as The Delta Fredericton (host hotel), Charlotte Street Arts Centre, and many more - hosting complementary indoor programming and activities, allowing families to comfortably enjoy the event regardless of weather.
Organizers say the goal is simple: create a free, accessible, large-scale festival focused entirely on kids and families — something that has not yet existed in Atlantic Canada at this level.
“Fredericton is a proven festival town, but families deserve something built especially for them,” says festival organizer Krista Touesnard, of the MRTI Agency. “Kidfest is about imagination, creativity, laughter, and bringing the community together.”
With its central downtown location, walkable venues, beautiful scenery, and free programming, Kidfest is expected to draw families from across New Brunswick and beyond.
