The Legislative Assembly Building in Fredericton has been the seat and symbol of democracy in New Brunswick since 1882, when it replaced a building that had been destroyed by fire two years earlier.
The Legislative Assembly Building is a three-story sandstone building with mansard roof and corner towers built in the Second Empire Style. Its central octagon domed tower, which rises 41 metres above the main roof level, is a Fredericton landmark.
Guided tours are available from Monday to Friday, starting at 8:30am and running every half hour until 4pm, with a break from 12pm to 1pm when no tours are offered. From June 30 to August 29 guided tours will be offered Monday to Saturday. Each tour lasts approximately 30 to 40 minutes and is free of charge. Visitors are asked to arrive 10 minutes early to allow time for security screening. After August 29, the building will remain open to the public for self-guided tours only from Monday to Friday and will be closed weekends and holidays.
All visitors must pass through security screening and present valid government-issued ID. Extra time should be allowed for possible line-ups. Restricted items are not permitted, and access rules and signage must be respected.
