New Brunswick Highland Games Festival Announces Friday Night Headliners

April 21, 2023

FREDERICTON NB, APRIL 21, 2023 - The New Brunswick Highland Games Festival is thrilled to announce a World-Class addition to the 2023 edition, the Festival’s 40th, which takes place July 28th-30th in downtown Fredericton.

The Festival has attracted Canada’s reigning couple of Celtic music, Natalie MacMaster & Donnell Leahy, to headline its Friday night entertainment. The pair will take to the Ceilidh stage in Barracks Square in Fredericton’s historic Garrison District, on Friday, July 28th.

We could not be more excited to have Natalie & Donnell headline our Friday night Ceilidh. To have this amount of Celtic superstardom on one stage, it’s hard to explain the energy that will be radiating throughout Downtown Fredericton for this performance,” said Chris Gallant, Chair for the New Brunswick Highland Games.

“It’s an amazing testament to the history of the Festival, as Natalie has previously performed in 1995 during our Festival’s early years and at the start of her rise to Celtic music royalty. Really it’s hard to put into words what it means to see her return, and especially to have her perform with her husband Donnell, I can’t think of a better way to kick off the 40th edition of the NB Highland Games Festival.”

Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, including the City of Fredericton & Downtown Fredericton, the Friday Night Ceilidh will be FREE and open to guests of all ages.

In addition to the Friday Night entertainment, festival-goers can expect an amazing array of Scottish athletics, highland dancing, bagpipes & drums (including the Massed Bands), cultural workshops, mini golf, face painting, food trucks & craft vendors, and so much more throughout the weekend.

Passes for the rest of the Festival, which takes place on the grounds of beautiful Government House in Fredericton on July 29th & 30th, can be purchased online at highlandgames.ca starting on May 1st at 12pm.
