Well picked: where to pick berries in the Fredericton Capital Region

The Fredericton Capital Region is ripe with local produce, and berries are no exception! The berry picking season typically kicks off in June, and carries into July, depending on weather and crops. It’s prime time to eat fresh, stock your freezer, or bake some yummy treats. Check out some of the charming local u-picks where you can harvest your own berries!

Sunset U-Pick | 49 Ferris Street
Strawberries, Raspberries & Blueberries

Located on Fredericton’s northside, just off of Sunset Drive, Sunset U-Pick is a popular patch where you can pick your own strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Spend a couple hours picking, then pop over to Coastline Pizza for a slice and a pint, you’ve earned it!

McKinney's U-Pick | 761 Route 105
Blueberries, Red and Black Currants & Raspberries

Boasting one of the more extensive selections of berries in the area, McKinney’s U-pick offers Raspberries, Blueberries, Red & Black Currants and Gooseberries. They also sell produce including Green & Yellow Beans and Tomatoes, and operate as a bee store, selling a complete line of beekeeping supplies. McKinney’s is conveniently located in Maugerville between the famous Big Potato, and Moxon’s Country Pumpkin (and petting zoo!), so you can load up on all your veggies, baked goods, and ice cream needs in one trip!

Gilbert Farm | 419 Route 102, Burton
Strawberries & Apples

Enjoy a drive through the countryside and stop in at Gilbert’s Farm to grab some pre-picked berries, or head into the field yourself! Nestled in Burton, about a 30 minute drive from downtown Fredericton, the Gilbert Farm U-pick offers strawberry fields and an apple orchard for guests to pick. If you’re looking to extend your riverside drive, carry on to the historic Village of Gagetown for a treat at Sweet Evan’s Cakes or a hearty meal at Gagetown Grill & Smokehouse and B&B, or the Old Boot Pub!

Young’s Strawberry U-Pick | 700 Route 670, Ripples, NB
Strawberries

Young’s Strawberry U-Pick is a quaint berry patch offering a serene u-pick experience in the quiet countryside. About a 40 minute drive from downtown Fredericton, Young’s is a short commute for campers at Princess Park on Grand Lake, or guests at Country Lane Bed & Breakfast!

Berry picking can be a fun and fruitful adventure for the whole family. When setting out to the berry patch, be sure to bring some baskets or containers, sunscreen, hats, and some water to keep you and your crew hydrated!
