Trail to Table: A Culinary Hiker's 2-Day Itinerary in the Fredericton Capital Region

Try visiting one of seven weekly and seasonal markets to get a taste from farmers’ markets to u-pick farm stands and local grocers, boasting fresh produce, quality meats and unique hand-made products produced right here in New Brunswick.

Afternoon: Continue your urban hiking adventure by exploring the scenic Northside Trails, which offers a mix of woodland paths and riverside scenery. Take a break at a riverside park and enjoy the natural beauty that intertwines with the cityscape. Looking for more adventure? Stay on the North Side and visit one of the U Pick patches to taste delicious local berries.

Dinner: For dinner, indulge in the Fredericton Capital Region’s vibrant culinary scene. Choose a restaurant that specializes in New Brunswick seafood or farm-to-table fare, offering a true taste of the region's bounty. 

Evening: Cap off your day with a leisurely stroll through Downtown Fredericton, perhaps enjoying a craft beer or cider at a local brewery or taproom or enjoying local live music at one of our many pubs and clubs. Hit the Fredericton Taproom Trail to indulge in local flavours from unique ciders and brews to delicious spirits.

Day 2: Natural Escapes and Culinary Experiences 

Morning: Begin with breakfast at a café that offers organic and locally roasted coffee alongside a menu of energizing options. 

Head to Minto, a 40-minute drive from Downtown Fredericton, where you'll find 40km+ of hiking trails and biking that cater to different skill levels. Choose a trail and immerse yourself in the lush forest and turquoise waters. 

Lunch: Pack a picnic with items from a local market or visit Berties Café for a wood-fired oven pizza with views of Grand Lake. 

Afternoon: After lunch, continue exploring Grand Lake and the surrounding waterways with kayak, canoe or paddleboard rentals from local campgrounds or accommodations. 

Dinner: Return to Fredericton and treat yourself to a fine dining experience. Many restaurants in the city offer menus that change with the seasons, ensuring the freshest flavours are always on your plate. 

Evening: Conclude your trip with a free guided heritage walking tour through downtown, immersing yourself in Downtown Fredericton's built heritage. End your evening with a visit to a dessert café or a specialty ice cream shop for a sweet end to your Fredericton Capital Region hiking and food adventure.
